Choosing Your First Guitar
Anyone can learn to play guitar at practically any time and at any age. Choosing the best guitar to learn on is a completely personal decision.
Guitars can be separated into three major categories:
- Nylon String (Classical)
- Steel String (Acoustic)
- Electric
What are the differences?
There are a few key differences between steel string, nylon string, and electric guitars that may be important for beginners to consider:
- Strings: Steel string guitars have strings made of steel, while nylon string guitars have strings made with nylon, impacting the feel and sound.
- Neck: Nylon string guitars often have wider necks, which can make them more comfortable for beginners.
- Sound: Steel string guitars tend to be brighter and louder, while nylon strings are softer and warmer.
- Playability: Nylon string guitars are generally easier to play due to softer strings, and electric guitars can also be easy to play for beginners.
