The Pattern neck is a medium-sized neck with a comfortable, round shape. It has a thickness of around 28mm at the 1st fret and 30mm at the 12th fret. The shoulders of the neck are slightly asymmetrical, with the bass side being slightly larger than the treble side. This gives the neck a comfortable, natural feel. The Pattern Thin neck, on the other hand, is a slimmer, more modern neck with a flatter shape. It has a thickness of around 26mm at the 1st fret and 28mm at the 12th fret, making it easier to play fast. The shoulders of the neck are more symmetrical than the Pattern neck, giving it a more streamlined, modern look. The DGT neck shape is based on two of Grissom's (former) favourite PRS guitars and comes between a Pattern/Wide Fat and a Pattern Regular/Regular. The larger frets and 11-gauge strings, combined with other appointments such as a thicker back, 22-fret neck, give the DGT a beefy tone and much thicker feel. Overall, the Pattern neck is ideal for players who prefer a more traditional, comfortable neck shape, while the Pattern Thin neck is better suited for players who prioritise speed and ease of playing. Personal preference plays a big role in choosing between these neck profiles, and players should try both to determine which feels best for them. Â |
The term "10 Top" refers to a grade of maple used on the top of certain Paul Reed Smith (PRS) guitars. This grade of maple is characterized by a visually stunning, symmetrical wood grain pattern with no "blemishes" or "defects", and is considered to be of the highest quality. There are a number of benefits to having a 10 Top on a PRS guitar. Firstly, the high-quality maple used on the top of the guitar not only looks beautiful, but can also contribute to a brighter, more resonant tone. The use of a 10 Top maple top can also increase the sustain of the guitar, allowing notes to ring out longer. |
The PRS Core line is the company's flagship range, featuring high-end, USA-made guitars that are designed to offer the ultimate in tone, playability, and craftsmanship. Core guitars typically feature premium tonewoods, high-end electronics, and meticulous attention to detail throughout the build process. These instruments are generally priced at the higher end of the PRS range, yet are the most popular and most synonymous with the PRS experience. When you think of a PRS, this is what you think about |
The Private Stock line offers a level of customisation and personalisation that is not available in any other PRS range. Customers can work directly with a PRS Private Stock dealer or with PRS's Custom Shop team to design their own unique guitar, selecting everything from the tonewoods and hardware to the electronics and finishes. Each instrument is built to the customer's exact specifications, with meticulous attention to detail and a focus on tone, playability, and beauty. Private Stock guitars are priced at the highest end of the PRS range, and are considered some of the most sought-after and collectible instruments in the world. These guitars are designed for the most discerning players and collectors, who are willing to pay a premium for a truly one-of-a-kind instrument that is built to their exact specifications. |
The PRS Bolt-On line features guitars that are similar to the Core range in terms of quality and construction, but with a bolt-on neck joint instead of the traditional set-neck joint found on Core models. This design offers a slightly different feel and tone, and allows for easier maintenance and repair of the instrument. Bolt-On models are generally priced slightly lower than their Core counterparts. |
The PRS S2 line is a more affordable range of USA-made guitars that are designed to offer a balance of high-end features and affordability. These instruments are built with many of the same materials and construction techniques as Core and Bolt-On models, but with a simpler aesthetic and streamlined set of features. S2 guitars feature a set-neck joint and are generally priced lower than Core and Bolt-On models. |
The PRS SE line is the company's entry-level range, featuring guitars that are manufactured in Asia to PRS's standards. These instruments are designed to offer a decent level of quality and playability at an affordable price point, and are available in a range of models and finishes. SE guitars feature bolt-on necks and are priced lower than all other PRS series. |
